Berry Acai Super Bowl
Acai bowls have been a food craze for some time now. I remember having my first acai bowl when I was in high school and then seeing them everywhere when I was in Hawaii on vacation with my family (around 2009). Acai is a super food - packed with Vitamin K, C, A, B6, Omega-6, Omega-9, Potassium, Magnesium, antioxidants, etc. The acai berry is made up of 70% fat, which is actually why it is practically impossible to get your hands on the fresh berries in the US. Foods high in fat are highly perishable, so once the berries are picked in South America, in countries like Brazil and Peru, there isn't enough time to get them to US stores to sell. Luckily, they have found ways to freeze the pulp from the berries, which is what I used to make this Berry Acai Super Bowl. You can also buy freeze dried acai, containing the same nutritional benefits as the frozen pulp, but it won't produce the same product if used in this smoothie bowl recipe.
I added ALOHA Vanilla Protein Powder to this acai bowl to give me added protein and energy to get me through the day! You can find other recipes I have made using ALOHA products by searching 'ALOHA'. Optional toppings: blackberries, strawberries, hemp seeds, cacao nibs
Add all ingredients to a high-speed blender and blend on high until smooth. Add berries and other optional toppings. Enjoy!
